A young man with a pale and emaciated appearance, often described as thin and haggard. His eyes have an expression of wildness and even madness, but can light up with benevolence and sweetness. He has a thin hand and a voice with varied intonations. His cheeks are feverish, and his frame is wasted. He is described as a shattered wreck, a mere skeleton at times.
I never saw a more interesting creature: his eyes have generally an expression of wildness, and even madness, but there are moments when, if anyone performs an act of kindness towards him or does him any the most trifling service, his whole countenance is lighted up, as it were, with a beam of benevolence and sweetness that I never saw equalled.
I see his thin hand raised in animation, while the lineaments of his face are irradiated by the soul within.
My cheek had grown pale with study, and my person had become emaciated with confinement.
My haggard and wild appearance awoke intense alarm.
I was a shattered wreck—the shadow of a human being. My strength was gone. I was a mere skeleton, and fever night and day preyed upon my wasted frame.
His fine and lovely eyes were now lighted up with indignation, now subdued to downcast sorrow and quenched in infinite wretchedness.
Frankenstein has daily declined in health; a feverish fire still glimmers in his eyes, but he is exhausted.
His voice became fainter as he spoke, and at length, exhausted by his effort, he sank into silence.
He pressed my hand feebly, and his eyes closed for ever, while the irradiation of a gentle smile passed away from his lips.
I never saw a man in so wretched a condition. His limbs were nearly frozen, and his body dreadfully emaciated by fatigue and suffering.

An old man with a benevolent countenance. He is described as having a serene conscience and guiltless life. His health is deeply shaken by the horrors he witnesses, and he sinks under the tidings of Elizabeth's death. He is a venerable old man with grey hairs.
Your father's health is vigorous, and he asks but to see you, but to be assured that you are well; and not a care will ever cloud his benevolent countenance.
My father's health was deeply shaken by the horror of the recent events.
I see him now, excellent and venerable old man! His eyes wandered in vacancy, for they had lost their charm and their delight—his Elizabeth, his more than daughter, whom he doted on with all that affection which a man feels, who in the decline of life, having few affections, clings more earnestly to those that remain.
He could not live under the horrors that were accumulated around him; the springs of existence suddenly gave way; he was unable to rise from his bed, and in a few days he died in my arms.

A woman of uncommon mould, with courage and a soft and benevolent mind. Her health is shaken by her early sorrows. She is described as having a pale cheek and an air of dignity and beauty. In the portrait, she is shown in an agony of despair, kneeling by her father's coffin, with rustic garb and pale cheek.
Her garb was rustic, and her cheek pale; but there was an air of dignity and beauty, that hardly permitted the sentiment of pity.
She died calmly, and her countenance expressed affection even in death.

A young woman of exquisite beauty. She has fair hair described as the brightest living gold, a clear and ample brow, blue eyes that are cloudless, and lips and face expressive of sensibility and sweetness. Her form and motions are lighter than the chamois. She is often described as having a celestial stamp in all her features. Later, she becomes thinner and loses some of her heavenly vivacity, but remains gentle and compassionate.
Her hair was the brightest living gold, and despite the poverty of her clothing, seemed to set a crown of distinction on her head. Her brow was clear and ample, her blue eyes cloudless, and her lips and the moulding of her face so expressive of sensibility and sweetness that none could behold her without looking on her as of a distinct species, a being heaven-sent, and bearing a celestial stamp in all her features.
a child fairer than pictured cherub—a creature who seemed to shed radiance from her looks and whose form and motions were lighter than the chamois of the hills.
The saintly soul of Elizabeth shone like a shrine-dedicated lamp in our peaceful home. Her sympathy was ours; her smile, her soft voice, the sweet glance of her celestial eyes, were ever there to bless and animate us.
Time had altered her since I last beheld her; it had endowed her with loveliness surpassing the beauty of her childish years. There was the same candour, the same vivacity, but it was allied to an expression more full of sensibility and intellect.
She was no longer that happy creature who in earlier youth wandered with me on the banks of the lake and talked with ecstasy of our future prospects. The first of those sorrows which are sent to wean us from the earth had visited her, and its dimming influence quenched her dearest smiles.
The sweet girl welcomed me with warm affection, yet tears were in her eyes as she beheld my emaciated frame and feverish cheeks. I saw a change in her also. She was thinner and had lost much of that heavenly vivacity that had before charmed me; but her gentleness and soft looks of compassion made her a more fit companion for one blasted and miserable as I was.
She was there, lifeless and inanimate, thrown across the bed, her head hanging down and her pale and distorted features half covered by her hair.
her bloodless arms and relaxed form flung by the murderer on its bridal bier.
The murderous mark of the fiend's grasp was on her neck, and the breath had ceased to issue from her lips.

We perceived a low carriage, fixed on a sledge and drawn by dogs, pass on towards the north, at the distance of half a mile; a being which had the shape of a man, but apparently of gigantic stature, sat in the sledge and guided the dogs.
The ice broke and freed our ship.

The gates of the town were already shut; and I was obliged to pass the night at Secheron, a village at the distance of half a league from the city.

I perceived a small hut, on a rising ground, which had doubtless been built for the convenience of some shepherd.
I was enchanted by the appearance of the hut; here the snow and rain could not penetrate; the ground was dry; and it presented to me then as exquisite and divine a retreat as Pandæmonium appeared to the dæmons of hell after their sufferings in the lake of fire.
My place of refuge was constructed of wood, but so low that I could with difficulty sit upright in it.
It was situated against the back of the cottage and surrounded on the sides which were exposed by a pig sty and a clear pool of water.
Through this crevice a small room was visible, whitewashed and clean but very bare of furniture.
In one corner, near a small fire, sat an old man, leaning his head on his hands in a disconsolate attitude.
The floor was a little raised, so that it was kept perfectly dry, and by its vicinity to the chimney of the cottage it was tolerably warm.
The cottage was quickly enveloped by the flames, which clung to it and licked it with their forked and destroying tongues.

The high and snowy mountains were its immediate boundaries, but I saw no more ruined castles and fertile fields.
Immense glaciers approached the road; I heard the rumbling thunder of the falling avalanche and marked the smoke of its passage.
Mont Blanc, the supreme and magnificent Mont Blanc, raised itself from the surrounding aiguilles, and its tremendous dôme overlooked the valley.
I remained at the window watching the pallid lightnings that played above Mont Blanc and listening to the rushing of the Arve, which pursued its noisy way beneath.

Cemetery in Geneva

Synthesis
The cemetery where William, Elizabeth, and Alphonse are buried.
I entered it and approached the tomb which marked their graves. Everything was silent except the leaves of the trees, which were gently agitated by the wind; the night was nearly dark, and the scene would have been solemn and affecting even to an uninterested observer.

Tartary and Russia

Synthesis
Vast wilds and deserts, with snow, where Victor pursues the monster.
Amidst the wilds of Tartary and Russia, although he still evaded me, I have ever followed in his track.
The snows descended on my head, and I saw the print of his huge step on the white plain.
